Just look at 'Criminal Minded' and most of KRS' early work to see plenty of evidence of dancehall used in hip-hop, 5-6 years prior in one of the genres seminal albums. You could probably say kicked off an early 90s resurgence where dancehall cats were running over hip-hop beats instead of the other way around, though... I’m a HUGE Salaam Remi fan, but he definitely did not (not even ARGUABLY) start NYC’s obsession with ‘dancehall/rap fusion’. I've always appreciated Salaam Remi because of that. I think he is the most underrated producer in the game. Everyone knows the big 5 (Dre, Swizz, Pharrell, Kanye & Timbo) but I prefer Salaam's production to those guys.
